Weekly Geeks - How to?

I haven't done a weekly geeks for ages but this one looked like good fun.
This week's post is from Trisha at Eclectic/Eccentric
I've added my responses in directly under each question so if any of the rest of the team would like to join in, pick a colour and stick your answers under mine.

How do you choose what to read? Is it random or planned? Based on your mood, challenges, titles, covers, topic?
Shopping, if i've seen it on b logs or like the cover or title, or it's a writer I know I enjoy. From my own shelves entirely mood based. If I am stressed I usually go for a re read, otherwise I let my fingers trip over the spines until they pull something out.

Harb: From my own shelves, I will suddenly feel the need to read a particular book, which means some get read more than others. If it is a new book, it is all down to covers or Hagelrat saying 'I think you'll like this one.'
MC- Bit of both =) I'll pick up a book thats been recommended, or if I've heard of the author. Or I'll just browse and pick up randomly =P
What process do you use for reading? Do you take notes while reading? Annotate your books? Just read?
Mostly just read. For anthologies I will sometimes make notes, but largely not.

Harb: Never, I am not that organised. Plus I get too imersed to write while I read.
MC- I can't think why I'd take notes... it's never occurred to me.
What happens when you are done reading? Do you wait to review or write immediately? Do you revisit and revise before posting?
I often go straight to review. Some books require sleeping on or working the review over a couple fo times, but usually I feel my instant response is the most honest, so that's what you get.

Harb: Well almost all the books I have reviewed are ones I have read previously, (being firly new at this game). Hwever I do like to review as quick as possible if it is a new book, and I will revist books I have read previously to review them.
MC-I wait to review after I've calmed down (I'm usually all enthusiastic after the climax) but I try to write the review at a certain time (Thurs) so if I've just finished, you can usually tell cause the review is much more gushy.
What other tasks do you go through after reading a book? Is your blog the only place you post a review? Do you keep lists of readings? Catalog genre, page numbers, gender of authors, etc.?
umm, nope, read review, sometimes tweet the review link, occasionally add them to librarything or amazon.

Harb: None of those I only review here. As I have stated I am not terribly organised an keeping lists of things would be too much effort. lol
MC- Lists? Nope I just review and put it on the bookcase, or lend it to someone.
What happens to the book when you are done with it? Does it end up in your home library? Go back to a public library? BookMooch?
Usually onto my shelves for all enternity. Some get passed on or put up as prizes, a few go to charity shops.

Harb: I have tremendous difficulty in letting books go even ones I don't like. Stupid I know, but I still have many books from when I was small. (Shhh! Don't tell anyone but I still read them every now and then)
MC- I hoard it all. You never know when you'll remember it and think "I want to read that again" (Like the L.J.Smith books)
Overall, if you had to give someone a "How To" list for your dealings with any particular book, what would it look like?

Get book, read book, post review, shelf book.
All in all I take a pretty straightforward approach.
Harb: ..... er.... I second Hagelrat.
MC- a How-To? I just read and then gush my thoughts to anyone who'll listen xDDD

Nice to see you are also a mood reader...

I love the fact you can go straight to review after reading - I always have to pause and then review...

Sometimes my pauses are too long...LOL

yup, i can't read a book if i am not in the mood. Some reviews are delayed as a result but if i push through in the wrong state of mind it doesn't get a fair review.
